Lucerne

Lucerne mulch like most quality mulches improves soil structure, aids in water retention, offers protection from extremes in temperature and encourages microbial activity.  It is applied to the surface rather than dug in and is great for rose gardens and other delicate plants. Lucerne is a legume crop and is excellent for improving soil condition because it is high in nitrogen/carbon and as it breaks down, it releases nutrients into the soil for plant intake.  APF's lucerne mulch is grown under contract by a small group of Australian farmers, ensuring only the highest quality raw materials for mulch production. Characteristics are:
